Project Brief

Designing a contemporary office at the edge of a central square in Accra required balancing institutional presence with a human-scaled relationship to the urban context.

The challenge was to create a building that conveys functional clarity and identity while responding to public space, sightlines, circulation, and the rhythm of the square.

Disciplined massing and clean geometries give the building a composed presence, while refined materials and subtle facade articulation add elegance and rhythm. Human-scaled proportions, clear spatial organization, and thoughtful operational flow create a workplace that feels approachable, functional, and quietly confident — where architecture supports both identity and everyday experience.

The project starts with a simple rectangular volume, a cut line is introduced to divide it into two masses to reduce bulk and prepare the building for further context-driven articulation.

The original mass was split into two volumes, then shifted to create dynamic perspectives, giving pedestrians and drivers varied angles and depth instead of a static facade.

The front volume’s edge was curved to match the square’s geometry, enhancing contextual integration and giving the building a more fluid, engaging presence.

L-shaped walls anchor the two volumes and define the perimeter, while a prominent entrance canopy enhances wayfinding and reinforces the building’s welcoming character.

Vertical louvers enhance solar control and privacy while adding rhythm, depth, and a refined, articulated character to the facade.

The finalized massing integrates the building into the square, aligning with site geometry and program while guiding access from surrounding streets.

“What defines XYZ in this project is our commitment to simplicity — not only as an aesthetic gesture, but as a discipline that shapes a building which is clear in its function, confident in its presence, and responsive to the people and context it serves.”
